Deadfur walked along the border with Ripplepaw, making sure to rub himself against most of the trees and freshen all the markers they came across so that the DarkClan scent was very strong. "We've got to make sure the borders are fresh," he mewed to his new apprentice. 'Make sure your always checking for anything unusual - like a cat who's scent you don't recognise, or something that doesn't belong.'

'Yes, Deadfur,' Ripplepaw mewed with a smile, happily sniffing the air. He was glad to be using nose. He paused as they got closer to Leap Rocks, smelling prey and tempted to hunt it. 'Can i hunt? I think it's within our borders', he mewed.

'As long as you don't cross into FernClan's territory. We don't need to give those cowards a reason to start anything.' Deadfur mewed.

Ripplepaw smiled then dropped down into a low hunter's crouch, then began to follow the prey scent, moving with the shadows and quickly disappearing with the limited light the stars were giving.
He soon found the bird he had been stalking, and watched it for a moment as it scratched at the ground, looking for bugs. Then he began creeping up on the thrush, putting more effort then normal into staying silent and hidden because he knew he had no chance to catch it if it took flight. As soon as he was close enough he pounced, quickly snapping his jaws onto it's neck to silence it. Once it went limp he whispered a quick thanks to StarClan, then wondered back to Deadfur.

"Good work, Ripplepaw," Deadfur meowed, then continued to lead the way along the border.

Mottledfrost emerges from the forest on the FernClan side, limping and bleeding from her shoulder. She makes her way to the Leap Rocks and struggles to get across on three legs, nearly falling in the river.
When she does make it safely across, she sits just inside the border and wraps her tail around her paws, looking around eagerly for any DarkClan cats.

Ripplepaw paused, then quickly hissed at Deadfur to stop. 'I smell blood.' He meowed quietly, '... And FernClan.'

Deadfur stopped and sniffed the air, but was unable to smell the scent that his apprentice had picked up. "Good work, Ripplepaw," he meowed, glanced around, and walked over to some damp ferns and rolled around in them to mask his scent. He signaled for Ripplepaw to do the same, then led the way to Leap Rocks.
As soon as he caught scent of theFernClanner he took care to move with the shadows, his black pelt quickly disappearing.
Once he caught sight of the FernClanner and noticed she had stepped just inside the border as urge of anger washed through him and the prophecy rang in his ears - beware the vultures that circle around you.
He circled around her, stopping just behind her. "You!" he snarled loudly. "You mangy piece of fox dung. How dare you step into our territory!"
He circled around her again, still moving with he shadows. "What do you think you're doing here?"

(( Ben, she's just inside her own territory, not DarkClan's. ))
Mottledfrost jumps and extends her claws, then recognizes the voice and relaxes slightly.
"Deadfur! FernClan has received a message from StarClan, and I--I think it involves Starlingstar. It's imperative that I speak with her right anyway," she says, nearly tripping over her words in her hurry to get them out.
She hesitates a moment, then adds urgently, "Please. I'll meet her anywhere--here, or in FernClan camp if you like. You can bring as many warriors as you like. But I must speak with Starlingstar.

Ripplepawfollowed after Deadfur, trying to copy the way he blended with the shadows.
Once he saw the she-cat he stopped, not wanting to fight her. Instead he watched.

(Oh sorry, read that wrong. Um... Yeah, ignored the bit bout stepping into dc territory)
"We've received a prophecy too, warning us, against cats like you," He meowed in a harsh tone.
He paused. He was almost completely sure that StarClan had warned them about Mottledfrost. Almost sure that he was one of the vultures. What if he had offered to make the meeting take place in FernClan camp because he had all her fox-hearted rouge friends there waiting to ambush Starlingstar?
But what if he was wrong? He was after all only almost sure.
"Starlingstar is on a border patrol. She will be joining us soon.' He finally replied.

Mottledfrost blinks, confused. "Cats like... me? I don't understand."
She shakes her head, dismissing the thought, her ears perk up at his reply.
"Thank you," she murmurs, dipping her head to the other deputy. Retreating farther into FernClan territory, she licks at the wound on her shoulder, mentally casting around for any herbs she might remember, regretting the lack of interest she always had towards medicine, and briefly wondering if Fogflower or Foxpelt knew any way to help; Foxpelt probably didn't, but the elder might.

All of a sudden Starlingstar appeared from the shadows. Her scent was masked like Deadfur's.
'Deadfur, what's going on?'She meowed.
River bird quickly joined the other patrol as when, having tripped a while back and been left behind. He shook the leaves from his pelt and looked around, nervous and lost with what was happening. He spotted Ripplepawin the shadows and went over to join the apprentice.

Mottledfrost immediately stops licking her wound leaps to her feet, eyes wide. She dips her head low to the DarkClan leader.
"Starlingstar. I need to speak with you, urgently."

Starlingstar struggled to hold back the urge to attack the FrnClan deputy. 'What do you want?' she hissed.

Mottledfrost begins talking quickly, desperate to get her words out.
"This morning, Foxpelt received a message from his apprentice, who died in leafbare. Robinpaw had a message for FernClan, and... I believe it means that you--"
She chokes off, unsure whether or not to continue. After a moment of hesitation, she takes a deep breath, meets Starlingstar's eyes, and continues in a soft, level voice.
"That you can help us locate and recover our leader."

A look of disbelief grew on Starlingstar's face. 'And why would I want to help you?' she meowed. 'My deputy received a prophecy, and we take it to be a warning, a warning against cats like you and those fox-hearted rouges that first started appearing around YOUR territory. Is it not true that you actually talked with them, instead of just chasing them off like the no good pests they are?'

Mottledfrost's eyes widen as she listens, then narrow dangerously.
"What are you accusing me of?" she asks, low and dangerously. "FernClan lacks the warriors to simply drive parties of rogues off our territory without suffering casualties we cannot afford, as you well know, so we use alternative methods--and so far, we've managed to drive at least one of the rogues out of the forest, likely for good."
Her shoulder twitches. "If these rogue attacks should be blamed on anyone, it would be the one who has the most to gain from setting packs of rogues loose in FernClan woods."
Mottledfrost's eyes narrow further and her claws dig into the ground. "Aren't you always trying to... improve DarkClan, Starlingstar?" she asks, the slightest hint of a growl entering her voice.

Starlingstar growled. 'DarkClan would never resort to such cowardly tactics,' she spat, then turned away from Mottledfrost, 'some words from a cat would was asking for help.'
She glanced at her warriors, and flicked her tail at Mottledfrost. 'If you want our help, come to our camp, and tell us all about your prophecy.' she mowed, starting to walk away.
Riverbird and Ripplepaw stepped towards Mottledfrost. 'So, are we escorting you to our camp?' Ripplepaw mewed, trying to hold back his natural friendliness, unable to find the cold voice the other warriors used.
